In 1998 we purchased a lobster pound located on Cape Sable Island in southwest Nova Scotia.  The pound, pictured below, covers and area of nearly three acres.  It has a holding capacity of 140,000 pounds.  Later, in 2001, we completed construction of the tank house seen in the pictures.  As a CFIA certified facility, it allows us to hold 110,000 pounds year-round in refrigerated water.  In addition to our own facility, we lease additional lobster pounds that increase our total holding capacity in Nova Scotia to nearly 600,000 pounds.  This capacity ensures we are able to provide a consistent supply of quality lobster.
When lobsters need to be removed from the pound, we drag a large net behind a boat and move it around the pound.  Once it has filled with lobsters, the net is hoisted onto a float where the lobsters are gently placed on the deck.  They are packed into plastic crates and moved by conveyor into our refrigerated tank house for storage, grading and delivery.

Our newly constructed tankhouse consists of three large bays of salt water.  Each bay can hold up to 190 crates of lobster on the surface.  In addition, we can stack crates up to three deep, or use trays to hold lobsters longer term.  As you can see in the picture to the left, each tray is divided into individual compartments.  The number of compartments can be adjusted based on the size of the lobsters.  These condos ensure each lobster is comfortable during their stay of up to six months.  The refrigerated water simulates the winter temperatures in the ocean and the lobsters become dormant.
